San Simon is a local Mayan god loosely (very loosely) based on the Catholic saint of the same name. Here in Panajachel among the Chatchiquel Mayan he is referred to as San Simon Pedro.
Across the lake in Santiago Atitlan he is called Ma Ximon ("ma shimon") by the Tzutujil Maya. Ma Ximon was once featured on the cover of National Geographic magazine.
Most larger Mayan villages (and many small ones) have a group of people devoted to San Simon. While San Simon represents different things to different people, in general San Simon is who you go to if you need money.
To this day most Mayans go to a Mayan priest

or "aserdote" to ask San Simon's support in any new business venture.
While mayanretreats.com does not focus exclusively on Mayan ritual (indeed, quite the contrary) we do ask that group leaders engage Mayan priests at least once for welcoming, healing or other ceremonies.
Come here to study, to get away from everyday life, to explore a truly magnificent corner of the earth and to discover a unique and beautiful people. But also come here for the Mayans to get to know you.
Shared ritual bonds and honors all participants.
