I left my native Kentucky in 1970 as a teenager and have traveled or lived out of the U.S. ever since. My new life started in Europe. Of the following ten years, five were spent in Europe, four in Central and South America and one in Africa.
In 1981 I found myself in Malasia where I began learning massage and healing with my first teacher, Mr. Li. He; a Chinese Tui Na practitioner and fruit farmer. He took only two students per year for six months each. It is impossible to do justice to all he taught me in that time but he was the first of my many teachers. Mr. Li helped me hone my skills and put me on the healing touch path. It was Mr. Li who .
Mr. Li sent me on to Thailand after we finished our time together. There I first discovered traditional Thai massage and studied at the Old Chinese Medicine Hospital in Chang Mai for two months. I put my newly acquired skills into practice in Dharamsala, India. I returned to India a number of times and lived there for a total of about four years.
Dharamsala is the home of the Tibetans spiritual leader in exile, the Dalai Lama. I began learning Thai massage working on Tibetan monks and Westerner meditation practitioners. Returning to my then home in Europe, Austria, I was able to immerse myself with another teacher, Inge from Hungary and learn some Western style relaxation and therapeutic massage techniques.
In the late 1970s I bought land in Guatemala and have concidered Guatemala home ever since. Due to political problems I had to leave Guatemala for a few years during which time I spent a winter in Alberta, Canada. There I continued my training in Swedish massage and hand and foot reflexology.
In the late 1980s I went to Vancouver where I received Level 1 Reiki training from Lani Kato and later in Guatemala received Level 2 and then Reiki Master training from Santa Fe based Reiki Master Rohini Skilling. In 1985 I returned to Guatemala to settle down with my children and began a practice which thrives to this day. I continue to study and learn new ways to assist others on their healing journeys.
Here I have studied Acupressure using a Teishin which is the tool that preceded needles in acupuncture, 5 Element form balancing, Auricular therapy and the I Ching with Guatemalan based acupunturist James Easter.
I still travel when I can, plus I work and teach in the U.S several times a year. I teach Thai Massage in Bozeman, Montana at the Health Works Institute, in Colombia and Kansas City, Missouri, South Texas and in particular at the Kabuki Springs and Spa in San Francisco, Ca, where I go twice a year.
Here at home, where I have been for 20+ years now, I am a mom, a love practitioner in my life and in my work and am thrilled to be able to offer the transformative and healing power of Thai Massage and the cultural experience of Guatemala.
